🚂 Setting the scene

Imagine you just landed in the 1930s, in the region near the South Manchurian Railway. Japan's Guandong Army is on the move, like a player in a real-life board game, conquering territories.

🚀 Quick recap

  • The Guandong Army has taken control around the South Manchurian Railway.
  • By March 1932, they've occupied three big provinces: Liaoning, Heilongjiang, and Jilin.
  • These army folks claimed they "liberated" Manchuria and the locals wanted independence. With a nod from Japan, voila! Manchuria transforms into the state of Manchukuo.

🤔 But here's the catch

  • Manchukuo's "independence" was announced on 1 March 1931.
  • People called it a "puppet state" and a "client regime" (like a singer lip-syncing a song; it's not really their voice!). This means, behind the scenes, Japan was pulling the strings.
  • Think of it like a ventriloquist and a puppet. Manchukuo was the puppet, and Japan was the ventriloquist.
