Mutualism is a special kind of interaction between two species where both of them become the best of friends and benefit from each other's company. It's like a fantastic teamwork where everyone wins!

What is mutualism?

Mutualism is a fascinating relationship where both species involved help each other out and gain something valuable in return. It's like having a buddy who always has your back!

Coral & zooxanthellae - a perfect example!

Imagine a coral, which is like a beautiful underwater apartment building for many tiny animals. Inside the coral, there's a little animal called a polyp, and it loves to build homes from a material called calcium carbonate. But this polyp has some cool roommates too!

The coral polyp's special roommate - zooxanthellae

The polyp has a fantastic roommate called zooxanthellae, which are tiny single-celled algae. These little fellows are the green machines of the underwater world because they can do something extraordinary - photosynthesis!
